The Essential Oil of Dill-A Modern Oil to Aid Diabetics

Dill (Anethum graveolens)is in the parsley family (Apiaceae or Umbelliferae). It was mentioned in the Egyptian Papyrus of Ebers and it is recorded that Roman gladiators used to rub their skin with dill before each match. It was also listed in Europe's first guide to medicines that became a standard reference for herbal treatments. Used from earliest times, it has been known as a medicinal and culinary herb. Hildegard of Bingen referred to it as well in the twelfth century.
Traditionally dill has been used both in the East and in the West as a digestive aid for indigestion, wind, colic, especially in children. Hildegard thought that eating dill in any way would make the person sad. However, she used it for nosebleeds and to help a man to extinguish the pleasure and desire of his flesh.

Modern research has shown dill has anti-diabetic, antispasmodic, antibacterial, and expectorant properties. It is a pancreatic stimulant, and an insulin/blood sugar regulator. It is used in diabetes, for digestive problems, and liver deficiencies. It has many similar properties to fennel making it good for digestive problems. Dill reminds the human spirit that the body is fragile on this earth. With optimism, dill shows a clear way to complete the tasks we undertake on life's journey. For emotional healing use dill to encourage tenderness, transformation, harmony, soothing, and calm.
